"Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are" 1 Corinthians 1:26-28
Yesterday, Preston and I had the honor of hearing a message on this scripture by Pastor Nakahashi at Shichigahama church. We w're 20 minutes late to the service, yet Nakahashi-Sensei delayed the start of service to accommodate us. His message explained how God does his work through the humblest of means. In other words, he uses our inherent brokenness, and our willingness to serve his will to spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
This was a message our team definitely needed to hear. In Japan about 1.2 million people die each day without knowing Christ. God desires to leverage our unique gifts and passions to reach unbelievers in Japan. In the past 24 hours, God has begun to give our team a vision for how we can increase the presence of the Gospel in remote communities of Sendai next year.
In 2020, we hope to send a new team to Sendai for two to three weeks to lead a new multi-church English kid's camp in Shichigahama. This is a large undertaking, as there are 19 small churches in Sendai, but limited attendance by area families.
In 2011, the community of Shichigahama was devastated by an earthquake, and Tsunami that took over 20,000 lives. Miraculously, Shichigahama church was built on higher ground, so it was untouched by the 128 feet high waves. Shichigahama is strategically positioned on the beach, and has the facilities to entertain many children, so it looks to be the ideal location for the multi-church kid's camp. Yet, the challenge is there are no laypeople to work the camp (as their total church size is four people) and limited church presence in the local community. So, please pray that God would clarify his vision for the future in Shichigahama, and be strengthening this church body to possibly handle such an undertaking.
Next year, we may also partner with Ayashi church (about 50 minutes from Shichigahama) which already has a successful kid's camp outreach and four full time missionaries, such as Gary and Naoko Seddon . Please pray for God to convict Christians in America or otherwise to join next year's trip, so we can effectively minister to this vulnerable community.

Additionally, this morning I took the picture that serves as this blog's header during a four mile run around a small community called Akasaka. The idol seen in the image is about five stories tall and over looks the entire valley. It is the center of this community. Please join me in prayer that Jesus will become the center of this community, and that God will equip and mobilize men and woman of faith who can build relationships with this unreached people group. Pray for entire families to know Christ in Akasaka. For the gospel to flourish there as it did in the Samaritan community of Sychar when Jesus shared the Gospel with the woman at the well.
