You'd think the typhoon would be our biggest storm.
Well today was definitely a day. =D
Kai woke up every hour last night, finally staying awake around 5:30 am. Thus Hawi, Preston, Felicia, and myself started the day late and depleted. 10 am came so fast and soon we were all jumping head long into ministry.
Hawi did the one on one tutoring of the 4 year old. Preston and Felicia taught an English class to 9 students, and I ran English cafe with 4 people while watching Kai. Some members of Shingu church tried to take care of Kai. At around 11 am Kai's cough resurfaced and he was running a fever. Felicia ended up tending to Kai, I finished english cafe (while praying for Kai), and Preston and Kinoshita finished english club.
At 11:30 am we took Kai to see Kinoshita's family pediatrician. This was an immense blessing as they were "closed" for lunch but were willing to stay late to see us between our ministries. We are so thankful that pastor Kinoshita was able to translate for us, so that we could give the doctor everything he needed to make a proper diagnosis. He believes that Kai either has a bacterial infection or something viral in his chest, (which is common this time of year). He proscribed some antibiotics, and chest decongestant. We are also using Vicks on his chest that we brought with us, and baby Tylenol to break the fever. Tomoko (Masa Kinoshita's wife) also gave us these neat chilled sticky things that we can put on Kai's head to help break the fever.
When we returned Felicia put Kai down for a mega nap, while Hawi, Preston, and I started our cooking class with 2 minutes to spare. As I've said God continues to provided the money, time, and resources necessary for this ministry. I forgot to mention that I did not get travelers insurance. In the fray of Ted Talk, programming, prepping for this missions trip Felicia and I just hadn't thought of it. In order to see the pediatrition and get a week's worth of drugs was only $100 bucks out of pocket. A huge blessing, and I'm so happy we didn't have to go to the emergency room. We have just enough Yen left to float through our last meals and travel to Osaka.

Our cooking ministry was phenomenal, the Jambalaya turned out perfect, and Hawi did a stellar job sharing her testimony. God has really brought us together as a diverse team, and we continue to share the load of this ministry daily. We share the work, food, resources, everything, in order to serve Japan the way God has planned for us. The maturity of Hawi and Preston is incredible, and they have been vital this trip. We really could not have done it without them, and they have grown immensely during the trip.
It has been amazing watching Kinoshita's church awaken in order to put on all of these ministries. While Team USA is focused on speaking English with kids or adults, or cooking, there are about 10 people in his church serving new comers, cleaning after events, connecting with the young families visiting. They have been vital in our outreach efforts, and if we can continue to connect the community with their church, this ministries will begin to become sustainable.
Tonight we are finishing preparations for the first day of "Kid's Church English Club 4 day camp". Please pray for day 1 of camp to set the pace, and continue to build these connections. Here's the schedule if you want to pray for us.
9 am - Registration (a great opportunity to meet parents)
9:30am - Orientation and Icebreakers
10:10 am - 10:45 am - Intro Activities
10:50 am - 12:50 pm - Lunch (cooking Paninis), and beginning rehearsal for the Drama team (Felicia, Hawi, and kids, which will be preparing a skit about the periodical son) , and praise team (Joe, Preston, and kids, will be learning new English worship songs with dance moves). These will be presented on the final day during Sunday service so parents will want to come.
1:00 - 1:50 pm - craft time and face painting
2:00- 3:50 pm - We are doing an "I Spy Selfie Scavenger Hunt" at Kamikura park
4:00 - 4:30 pm - Shaved Ice Time
5:00 pm - Go home, and then we will start planning like crazy for the next day lol.
Thanks for being such a huge part of our ministry in support and prayer. This trip is very difficult, but God has been in every minute detail creating opportunities for the Japanese to experience Christ. He his growing the church, and equipping workers locally to better reach their communities. Your prayers are moving mountains, healing the broken, and opening hearts. Don't stop, we need you.
